Alabama Wildlife Center

Mostly a volunteer operated nonprofit, the Alabama Wildlife Center was founded in 1977 and is Alabama's oldest and largest wildlife rehabilitation organization. Alabama Wildlife Center annual treats approximately 1,800 native wild birds from more than 100 different species.

Pelham Civic Complex & Ice Arena

Shelby County Arts Center

Adaptive Aquatics

Adaptive Aquatics is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the introduction, teaching and advancement of adapted water skiing for children and adults with physical "disAbilities." Over the years, they have taught skiers with a broad range of disabilities including individuals with cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, post polio, kernicterus, acquired brain injuries, amputations and visual impairments.

Alabama National Cemetery

The new 479-acre national cemetery in Montevallo will serve veterans' needs for at least the next 50 years. The cemetery is located at 3133 Highway 119, 15 miles south of Birmingham, just north of the town of Montevallo and west of Interstate Highway 65.

Aldrich Coal Mine Museum

Cahaba River Park

The Cahaba River Park is a joint venture between the Alabama Forever Wild Land Trust and Shelby County with the County taking the lead on development of outdoor amenities at the park. This scenic park is located at the confluence of the Cahaba River and Shades Creek with 1,838 acres including a combined 1,339 acres in the developed North Sector (1,212 acres Forever Wild Property and 127 acres Shelby County Property) on River Road (County Road 251) off County Road 13 west of Helena.

Double Oak Park

Orr Park

With two playgrounds, six baseball/softball fields, a walking trail, a football field and a practice field, Orr Park offers residents and visitors an opportunity to "get back to nature", to play organized sports, to use a variety of park equipment, to have family picnics, and to engage in just about any other imaginable outdoor activity.

Abby Wooley Park

Akridge Arboretum Park

The Akridge Arboretum Park is a one acre park that was established in 1993 and developed around the Historic Presbyterian Church which is now used for weddings and reunions.

Alabaster Municipal Park

Alabaster Municipal Park is located between Thompson Middle School and Thompson Intermediate School. The park features 4 lighted tennis courts, 3 lighted basketball courts (1 full court / 2 half courts), 12 lighted soccer fields (4 U6 fields, 3 U8 fields, 2 U9/U10 fields, 2 U11/U12 fields, and a U13+ field), and a lighted practice field. The park has a rentable pavilion with 6 picnic tables and a rentable pavilion with 9 picnic tables.

Beeswax Creek Park

Beeswax Creek Park, bordered by Beeswax Creek to its north and Lay Lake (Coosa River) to its east, is located off State Highway 145 in the Columbiana / Wilsonville area. Located on property leased from Alabama Power Company, the day use only park, adjacent to Beeswax Landing, was built and is maintained by Shelby County. Beeswax Creek Park has many amenities including three fishing piers; one handicap accessible fishing pier; two picnic pavilions; two canoe-in only campsites; a 2.8 mile multi-use trail for hiking, running, and mountain biking; two playgrounds; a basketball court; and two restroom facilities.

Buck Creek Park

A 1.5 mile linear walking trail connects Buck Creek Park with Warrior Park The park is maintained by the City of Alabaster.

Cahaba Lily Park

Cahaba Lily Park is a joint venture with shared financing between Shelby County and the City of Helena. Shelby County coordinated engineering, construction and contracting of park amenities. The park is maintained by the City of Helena.

Carroll Park

Carroll Park is a City of Pelham passive park located on the southern end of Chandalar Subdivision at the intersection of Chandalar Drive and Chandalar Court. The park is a large open grassy area bordered on its north by Cahaba Valley Creek. It is an ideal area for a tranquil picnic, whether using a provided picnic table or spreading out a blanket.

Dunnavant Valley Fields

Dunnavant Valley Fields has more than 50 acres on site including six soccer fields. The fields have played host to numerous youth soccer tournaments attracting some of the top soccer players from across the nation.

Lay Lake

This 12,000 acre lake has 289 miles of shoreline and has played host to the Bass Masters Classic Tournament. Since being impounded in 1914 by the Alabama Power Company, Lay Lake is best known for its spotted bass and largemouth bass fishing. A high quality largemouth bass and spotted bass fishery exists at Lay Reservoir.

Pelham Racquet Club

The Pelham Racquet Club is a public tennis facility consisting of 20 clay courts and five hard courts, all lighted with above tournament grade lighting.

Shelby County Exhibition Center

Arena size - Approximately 100 feet by 225 feet The site of such annual events as the Shelby County Fair, rodeos and various other events.

University of Montevallo Athletic Facilities

University of Montevallo Athletic Facilities include Kermit A Johnson Field, Trustmark Arena, Varsity Field, Softball Stadium at Orr Park, Cross Country Course, Track and Field/Lacrosse Stadium, Tennis Court Complex, Timberline Golf Club, Athletic Training/Weight Room.

Veterans Park on Valleydale

Veterans Park on Valleydale features 5K and 8K cross country courses, 4 beach volleyball courts, 2 pavilions, and 2 children's playgrounds with swing sets.

Veterans Park Alabaster

A 90-acre facility with five Youth Baseball/Softball Fields with a Concession Stand and Press Box, 2 Miles of Lighted Walking Tracks with Benches for resting along the way, Regulation Size Skatepark,a Bluebird Trail, Two Playground Areas, Restrooms, 9 Pavilions Available for Rental, Several Play Meadows, Batting Cages,and an Arbor.

Oak Mountain State Park

As Alabama's largest park, Oak Mountain provides 9,940 acres of pine-studded ridges and lush green hardwood bottoms. Runner's World Magazine recently named the running trails at Oak Mountain as one of "The Crown Jewels," listing them among the Top 25 Best Trail Runs in America. The park offers vacation cottages, golf, pro shop with snack bar, improved camping, picnicking, swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, mountain bike trails, backpacking, a demonstration farm and horseback riding and equestrian campground facilities. With the largest area and variety of outdoor recreational pursuits, Oak Mountain is sure to provide excitement for every member of the family!

Oak Mountain State Park Trails

Oak Mountain State Park’s mountain bike trails are featured on the MTB Project website that allows you to search for mountain bike trails across the country and get vital information about specific trails and take virtual rides on certain segments.

Dunnavant Valley Greenway

The Dunnavant Valley Greenway, which has a natural surface, spans approximately 1.9 miles along the North Fork of Yellow Leaf Creek between the Dunnavant Valley Fields Trailhead and the Hwy 41 Trailhead. The Dunnavant Valley Fields Trailhead (southern trailhead) is located within the soccer field complex. After exiting Highway 280, continue past the 280 Shelby County Services Building (19220 Highway 280 East, Birmingham, AL 35242).

Veteran's Park Trail on Valleydale — Veteran’s Park Trail on Valleydale

The Veterans Park on Valleydale trail is approximately 3.1 miles in length and is easily accessible from nearby schools, Jefferson State Community College and large residential developments. The course consisting of both a soft gravel mixture and hard surface serves as host to numerous local, regional and national cross country events with a 5k and 8K course. The Great American Cross Country Race brings top runners from across the country to compete on the course.

Black Creek Mountain Bike Park

Black Creek Mountain Bike Park, which opened in June 2019, is a Hoover city park built with mountain biking in mind. The 73 acre park straddles the boundary of Jefferson and Shelby Counties adjacent to the Lake Wilborn community just south of the Hoover Met Complex.

Buck Creek Greenway - Alabaster — Buck Creek Greenway – Alabaster

The Buck Creek Greenway trail contains approximately 3 miles of walking and biking paths with a 1.5 mile linear main trail. It connects two major parks: Buck Creek Park and Warrior Park. There are three trail heads to access the nature trail.

Columbiana Community Trail

The Columbiana Community Trail is behind the ¼ mile walking track at Elvin Hill Elementary School on fenced-in Shelby County Schools property. The single loop length of the trail which serpentines through wooded and hilly terrain is 1.48 miles. The trail serves as the Shelby County High School Cross Country (XC) Course. The trail is for daylight use only and open to the public when not in school use. The project was accomplished through a joint effort of Shelby County Schools, the Shelby County Commission, and the City of Columbiana. No restrooms are found onsite.

Heardmont Park Trail

The Heardmont Park walking trail is approximately one mile in length with other links that help to intra-connect the 74-acre family recreational park. The creek side walking trail is lighted and follows along the scenic Cahaba Valley Creek, and is handicap accessible. The trail, which also has serves as the host course for local high school cross country meets, meanders throughout the facility. In addition to play meadows and a children’s playground, the park features nine baseball fields, three soccer fields and two tennis courts. The athletic facilities have hosted numerous regional and national youth sporting events.

Hillsboro Trail

The Hillsboro Trail currently contains approximately two miles of multi-use trail that connects residential communities, schools, and commercial areas. The trail is paved and constructed on an old rail bed with four tunnels and bridges making it ideal for walking, jogging and cycling.

Montevallo Greenway

The Montevallo Greenway is a trail that is being constructed to connect Orr Park, Downtown Business District, University of Montevallo and the University Lake Recreation Area

Veterans Park Alabaster Trail on Highway 119

The Veterans Park Alabaster trail covers approximately 2 miles and is located within a 90-acre park facility. The trail is lighted and is a paved surface that is handicap accessible. Several pavilions and benches are located throughout the course of the trail. The Park features five youth baseball/softball fields; several play meadows, two ponds, an arbor and a bluebird trail. The park also includes a self contained regulation skate park.

Oak Mountain State Park Golf Course

This public 18-hole championship course (par 72) was designed by Earl Stone. The course is repeatedly rated by Golf Digest to be among the top 50-75 public courses in the United States, Oak Mountain has hosted qualifying rounds for the Alabama Open.

Timberline Golf Course

Timberline Golf Club is a highly-acclaimed semi-private course that is challenging for all golfers regardless of skill. Friendly and careful service to members and the public alike is what you'll find here. It's the perfect place for a golf outing for your business or charity; a wonderful club to make your home course.

Ballantre Golf Club

The spirit of golf lives with a touch of Scotland at Ballantrae Golf Course in Pelham. Since not everybody can travel to Scotland to play golf, now there is Ballantrae. Eighteen beautiful holes, designed by Bob Cupp over the most perfect acreage devoted to the grand auld game. Ballantrae, a new challenge for champions like you, located only minutes off I-65.

Greystone Glof Club & Country Club

Greystone Golf and Country Club is a private club located within the Greystone Community with two champion level courses; The Founders Golf Course and The Legacy Course. Both were designed to accommodate both member and PGA tournament play.

Inverness Country Club

Inverness Country Club is a private club located within the Inverness Community with a Championship 18-hole golf course. Completely renovated in 2006 by noted golf course architect, Bill Bergin, the golf course offers a wonderful experience to golfers of all abilities. The course features an outstanding practice facility, manicured fairways, a set of junior tees, and championship miniverde greens. The traditional loop style of the course adds to the serenity and peacefulness of the surroundings.

Riverchase Country Club

Riverchase Country Club is a private, member-owned club with a unique 18-hole Joe Lee designed course that takes full advantage of breathtaking mountain vistas, rolling hills, and surrounding lakes to make it visually striking as well as a challenge and a thrill to play.

Shoal Creek Golf & Country Club

The Jack Nicklaus-designed 18-hole golf course is internationally renowned, and has played host to two PGA and one US Amateur Championships. The course is noted for a design that makes for challenging, yet fair play. Double Oak Mountain offers a backdrop of beauty from any vantage point on the course, especially so when it radiates with color in the fall.

Birmingham Zoo

The Birmingham Zoo is Alabama's most popular not-for-profit attraction, drawing more than 450,000 visitors annually. Approximately 750 animals of 250 species call the 122-acre Birmingham Zoo home, including sea lions, cheetahs and endangered species from six continents.

McWane Science Center

At the McWane Center, science becomes an adventure for all ages and on a grand scale. The museum offers a hands-on, creative examination of the worlds around us, and is located in a renovated department store housing 150,000 square feet of educational science equipment and a 42,000 square-foot IMAX theater. McWane Center offers education, exploration and entertainment for visitors of all ages. For the very young, there is “Just Mice Size”, where everything is oversized. For the older children, there is a “Challenger Learning Center”. The McWane Center offers something for everyone. Admission Charged.

Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark

Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark is a 32-acre blast furnace plant where iron was made for nearly 100 years. Now a museum of history and industry, the site preserves an extraordinary collection of buildings, industrial structures and machinery. Sloss is the only 20th century blast furnace in the country that is being preserved and interpreted as a museum. Sloss hosts a wide variety of concerts, festivals and conferences. Closed on Mondays. Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame

The Jazz Hall of Fame exhibits memorabilia in the historic, art deco Carver Theatre. Within the Carver, the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame displays numerous exhibits of musicians with Alabama ties, such as Erskine Hawkins and Sun Ra, who made international contributions to the world of jazz. Admission is free.

Alabama Sports Hall of Fame

Located in the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex, the Sports Hall of Fame pays tribute to sports heroes with ties to the state of Alabama. This beautifully designed exhibit gives visitors a look at the careers of Alabama sports legends such as Paul “Bear” Bryant to Jesse Owens to Willie Mays. Renowned throughout the country as one of the most attractive state showcases of its type, this three-story, 30,000 square-foot structure features a 75-seat Bryant-Jordan Theater, and more than 4,000 pieces of spectacular memorabilia. Alabama Splash Adventure Waterpark

Formerly Visionland, the park features a theme park and water park. There is a wave pool that generates four-foot-high waves and has a real sand beach. In addition to new rides in the existing theme and water park, the plan calls for an indoor water park, a sports complex, interactive water play area and more exciting attractions.

Aldridge Botanical Gardens

Aldridge Gardens features hydrangeas and other native plants and attracts interest worldwide to the central Alabama area. The 30-acre botanical garden has a seven-acre lake in the middle of the property with a walking trail around it, and its first garden is laden with many different varieties of hydrangeas. The signature flower of Aldridge Gardens is the Snowflake Hydrangea, a lush white flower developed and propagated by noted nurseryman, Eddie Aldridge. Free Admission.

Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum

The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum houses a collection of more than 850 motorcycles and 45 cars making it the largest in the United States and possibly the world. There are bikes from 17 nations with 125 manufacturers represented. The Barber Motorsports Park is a world-class racing facility located in Birmingham. Hosts to exciting events such as the AMA Superbike Championship Series and the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series. Admission charged.

Birmingham Botanical Gardens

The Birmingham Botanical Gardens feature 67 acres of glorious nature including the spectacular Southern Living Gardens. The Botanical Gardens offer everything from beautiful Southern wildflowers to a Japanese Garden, complete with a bonsai collection and an authentic Japanese Teahouse. Free Admission.

Birmingham Civil Rights Institute

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is a “living institution” that offers a self-guided tour through the civil rights movement of the 1950’s and ‘60s, and the human rights struggles of today. This institute captures the drama of the countless individuals- both well known and unknown, who dared to confront racial discriminations. The Institute chronicles the roles that Birmingham and the South played in the civil rights movement and serves as a forum for understanding the universal problems of racism. Swinging Fore Achievement

The 10th Annual Swinging Fore Achievement Golf Tournament will be held on May 16th at Ballantrae Golf Club. Lunch will be provided beginning at 11:30am with the Shotgun Start at 1:00 pm. The entry fee for individual players is $150 or play as a team for $600. There will be prizes for the top 3 teams of the tournament. The entry fee includes green fee & golf cart, pre-round practice balls, lunch, Ballantrae Course Yardage Book and a goodie bag.

This event benefits The Arc of Shelby County, which serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Shelby and Chilton Counties.

Support two great causes and have a great time doing it! The Provinicial Pub will have Kingfish playing at 4pm and other local music legends joining to finish off the night! They will have 50/50 tickets and other raffle items too! Meet radio legend hall of fame Dollar Bill Lawson for a meet and greet and photos. Shrimp boil plates will be for sale by The Local Oyster House, and BBQ plates by Tin Top BBQ 2! There will be a $10 dollar cover at the door all going to the charities.

This will benefit the Clint Mooney foundation and Bikes 4 Kids non profits! This one is going to be a big one and lots of fun!
