Shelby County Airport

Overview

Located in the southern portion of Shelby County off of I-65 at Exit 234, the Shelby County Airport is a general aviation facility owned and operated by the Shelby County Commission. Only 30 minutes from downtown Birmingham and one hour from Montgomery and Tuscaloosa, the airport is close to three metropolitan areas. The terminal offers wi-fi services, pilot's lounge, conference room and many other amenities. The County owns and leases multiple types of hangars that serve the approximately 160 aircraft that are based on the field. Hangar rentals are available, with a waiting list. The 75 foot wide asphalt runway is 5001 feet in length. The airport offers two flight schools and two airplane maintenance shops. Shelby County is continuously improving facilities at the airport from terminal renovations, new hangar construction projects and maintenance projects such as asphalt preservation and striping. These projects are funded with revenue generated from the airport operations as well as state and federal grant funds.
